STD Symptoms, Bacterial Vaginosis/Gardenerella Infection Symptoms & Bacterial Vaginosis/Gardenerella Infection Test London
What is it
Bacterial Vaginosis is the most common cause of vaginal infection (vaginitis) and is the result of bacterial overgrowth in the vagina. It should not be confused with a yeast infection (candidiasis) or Trichomoniasis, which are not bacteria. The bacterium Gardnerella is a common culprit. As it is a vaginal condition, men are not tested for it. It commonly develops when the acidity of the vagina is altered by, for example, douching and washing out the vagina, overuse of soap or vaginal bathing solutions. Can cause miscarriage if left untreated.
Symptoms
Possibly none or a watery vaginal discharge with a change in colour and a “fishy” odour.
Other Adverse Consequences
Possible cause of miscarriage.
Test
Swabs to measure acidity and/or detect the presence of bacteria.
Treatment
