What is it

Trichomoniasis is and STD caused by a parasite (Trichomonas Vaginalis) which infects the vagina in women and the urethra in men. Passed on through sexual intercourse.

SYMPTOMS

Potentially none. Women may have a vaginal discharge that is frothy, changes colour and/or smells “fishy”; soreness and itching; pain when urinating or having sex. Men may have penile discharge and pain or burning when urinating.

Other Adverse Consequences

Increased risk of pre-term delivery and eye infections in babies; prostatitis in men; increased risk of HIV infection.

Test

Swabs and/or urine.

Treatment

Simple antibiotics.
