Call for increase in rate of HIV testing

There has been a dramatic shift in where people are now diagnosed with HIV, despite many health care professionals not wanting to do any HIV testing, let alone and routine, regular testing, over half the people diagnosed with HIV in Brighton in 2012 were not in a GUM Clinic.

Despite increasing pressure for more healthcare professionals to do HIV testing, especially in areas where HIV is known to be high.  Many of them are worried that they have not had enough training to be able to do the test with confidence.

More people are turning to private services such as Better2Know, where the results come back quickly from specialist professionals.  HIV test results are known the same day that the sample is received in the laboratory.
