Better2Know: Early Detection Screen

When you worried about the health of someone you have had sex with, you want to get answers quickly.  With the Better2Know Early Detection Screen, you can be tested for HIV just 10 days after any incident you are concerned about. This test is popular with people who want results fast, as well as healthcare professionals who may have been exposed at work.

The early detection screen needs two blood samples (taken at the same time – you won’t notice there are two) and the results are available in just three days from when the sample is received in the laboratory.  It is available in any of our STD clinics across the UK.

The screen tests for:

• HIV
• Hepatitis B
• Hepatitis C

The screen uses a different method of detecting all these STDs and STIs (they are all viruses), the screen looks for any evidence of the virus being in your blood, as opposed to the body’s reaction to the virus which can take longer to be detectable (and why other HIV tests ask you to wait for 28 days).  It is advisable to retest at 28 days if your test results come back negative.
