Spend five minutes trawling the internet and you’ll soon discover there are some odd fetishes out there. Whilst Better2Know don’t judge (just keep it as safe as possible!), anybody who is icky about eyes should probably stop reading about now.

An outbreak of conjunctivitis in schools across Japan has exposed a trend called oculolinctus, or ‘worming’, whereby you lick your partner’s eye as a sort of sexual fetish. Mainly practised by Japanese adolescents, oculolinctus can also spread ocular Chlamydia.

“This is a dangerous practice which has the potential to spread a number of bacteria that reside in the mouth to the eye resulting in bacterial infections such as conjunctivitis to styes as well as abscesses involving the lids and eye socket,” explained Dr. Robert Glatter, an emergency medicine physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

Apparently the craze originated in Japan from a music video by the Japanese band Born, leading to images and videos of the act going viral. The sensation has been compared to toe-sucking, however considering all the risks, perhaps this is one fetish best avoided.
