A Herpes Test is one of the most popular tests for Better2Know patients in Cardiff. We are experts in Herpes and Sexual Health, so we can help you to choose the right test for you.
Your Herpes Test in Cardiff will tell you whether you have Herpes Type 1, Herpes Type 2, both or neither. Herpes type 1 is typically associated with cold sores around the mouth. Herpes Type 2 is typically associated with genital herpes.
With (not a lot of) imagination you can see how if you have had or received oral sex, you could catch or transmit oral herpes to the genitals and vice versa. Herpes does not always hang out where it used to.
In Wales, 1 in 4 people with herpes find they have no or mild symptoms with only an occasional outbreak. 2 in 4 people find they have symptoms, but their severity and frequency decrease with time. 1 in 4 people has to take medication to keep their herpes outbreaks under control.
There is no cure for herpes, but most people find that their body gets used to the virus, and outbreaks become less severe and infrequent with time. Medication can be used to decrease the time that an outbreak lasts for and to increase the time in between outbreaks.
Better2Know has three herpes tests in Cardiff. Which test you choose depends on whether or not you have symptoms at the time of your test. All our testing is confidential with fast results.
The herpes blood test is our standard IgG Herpes Test. It will tell you whether you have herpes type 1 and/ or herpes type 2. It will tell you whether you have ever had herpes not whether any current symptoms are due to herpes. You should wait 4 to 6 weeks after any incident that you are concerned about before choosing this test.
If you want to know whether your current symptoms are due to herpes then we would suggest a swab of the suspected blister or a urine test in Cardiff. These results take a little longer to come back from the laboratory (5 working days from when your sample is received in the laboratory). They are very accurate and you do not have to wait as long since any incident you are concerned about. You can get tested right away.
