Komisaruk also says that sexual climax also prevents the feeling of pain: “At orgasm we see a tremendous increase in the blood flow (to the brain). So my belief is it can’t be bad. It brings all the nutrients and oxygenation to the brain.”

Despite having studied female sexual pleasure for over 50 years, Komisaruk believes there is still a lot more to learn. “We know virtually nothing about pleasure,” Komisaruk acknowledges, “It’s important to understand how the brain produces it. What parts of the brain produce such intense pleasure, and can we use that in some way? What would that do to depression or anxiety or addiction or pain?”

So, yet more excuses get out there and start having fun with a friend, however make sure you always use protection such as condoms for new or casual partners and get tested for STIs.
