{"id":2711,"date":"2014-01-31T12:23:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-31T12:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2711"},"modified":"2024-02-22T19:16:36","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T19:16:36","slug":"men-could-talk-more-about-sexual-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/men-could-talk-more-about-sexual-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Men Could Talk More About Sexual Health"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Men and their doctors must be encouraged to talk openly about sexual matters, says Professor Geoff Hackett, Chairman of the British Society for Sexual Medicine, who says that Society pressurises men to behave and perform like James Bond, and this makes men feel uncomfortable when talking about sexual health issues including infections and performance.&nbsp; Women have more opportunity to talk about these issues as they are more likely to access medical help for smear tests, contraception and before and during pregnancy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/couple-talking-1-1-1024x518.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7718\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/couple-talking-1-1-1024x518.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/couple-talking-1-1-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/couple-talking-1-1-768x388.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/couple-talking-1-1-1536x777.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/couple-talking-1-1-2048x1036.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is a public perception that men have to be ready for it at any time\u201d, says Hackett, \u201cso everything is always said in a jokey way\u201d.&nbsp; A recent survey says that only 13% of British men have spoken to their GP about their sexual health.&nbsp; Hackett also calls for improved sex education in schools to help young people explore their feelings and what happens in real sexual relationships, as opposed to those seen in films and soaps.&nbsp; He explains:&nbsp; \u201cI think that it\u2019s important that, when it is taught in schools, it is taught in the right way. There has to be attention on sex and relationships, not just the biological side of things starting with rabbits or newts&#8230;It always has to be in the context of long term relationships, intimacy and not just the sexual acts.
