{"id":2868,"date":"2014-09-12T08:53:31","date_gmt":"2014-09-12T08:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2868"},"modified":"2024-02-22T18:42:27","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T18:42:27","slug":"who-say-all-gay-men-should-take-hiv-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/who-say-all-gay-men-should-take-hiv-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"WHO say all Gay Men should take HIV drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The World Health Organisaion (WHO) has said that all gay men should take anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs) to help prevent the spread of HIV. \u00a0Although HIV is higher in gay men than in the homosexual population, it is by no means &#8220;all&#8221; gay men. \u00a0Asking everyone to take strong medication is not the answer. \u00a0It is as easy to forget to take your drugs as it is to not wear a condom.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/male-friend-group-5-1024x518.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7732\" width=\"768\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/male-friend-group-5-1024x518.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/male-friend-group-5-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/male-friend-group-5-768x388.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/male-friend-group-5-1536x777.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.better2know.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/male-friend-group-5-2048x1036.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is that all people are becoming more complacent about HIV. &nbsp;Since HIV no longer means developing AIDS and dying, the condition is more of a lifestyle change than a life risk. &nbsp;More people are becoming infected with HIV in both the straight and gay communities, and most researchers think that the numbers of new infections are roughly evenly split between the two. &nbsp;Therefore the problem is not that people who are having unprotected sex are not on ARV&#8217;s, but that people are having high-risk unprotected sex. &nbsp;Education and awareness are the answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of us see campaigns to help people with HIV, but when was the last time you saw anything warning you on the consequences of unprotected sex? &nbsp; Was it Chlamydia? &nbsp;There is more that we can all do to prevent the spread of HIV.
