Overall, the number of infections had actually fallen by five per cent, including a sizeable drop in new cases of Gonorrhoea, something which prompted PHE’s London Director, Dr Yvonne Doyle, to claim that the city had “turned the tide”.

Despite these advances, however, London still has the highest rate of sexually transmitted infections anywhere in the UK, with over 240,000 diagnosed STIs in the last two years alone – something Dr Doyle was keen to acknowledge. Speaking to the London Evening Standard, she admitted that “poor sexual health remains a public health problem in London, and STIs are still too high compared to other parts of the country.”

Testing remains the only way to be certain of your sexual health status, and at Better2Know we can get you a same or next day appointment, with private clinics across London and beyond.
