According to a report by Public Health England, over 88,000 people in the UK were living with diagnosed HIV in 2015. These figures do not include the thousands of people whose status remains undiagnosed. It is estimated that as many as one in four people living with HIV in this country are unaware of their infection.
Early detection is crucial in combatting HIV, highlighting the importance of being tested regularly. There are a number of options when it comes to HIV testing with Better2Know – a couple of which can be carried out from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
The first thing to remember is that you should wait at least 28 days after the incident you are concerned about before taking one of our home tests. Testing before this time may reduce the accuracy of the result, although some of our other HIV testing services – including our Rapid Test (26 days) and our Early Detection Screen (10 days) – are suitable for people with a shorter period of incubation.
Our Home Testing Kit allows you to test for both HIV types I and II as well as the P24 antigen, an early indication of HIV infection. Testing just 28 days after the incident you’re concerned about allows for a 99.8% accuracy rate, which rises to 99.9% after three months.
Our HIV Home Testing Kits are available to order online, or by phone on the number above. If you order your test before 4pm on a weekday, we will post it first class – at no extra cost – on the very same day.
You will receive a plain, discreet postal pack containing a form, three finger prick lancets, a small gold topped tube, wipes, a return envelope and a leaflet with sample collection instructions. Once you have collected your sample, all you have to do is pop it into a pre-paid envelope and send it off for analysis at our world class London laboratory.
Details of your results are 100% confidential and, depending on your selected test, they should be ready the same day that your sample arrives at our laboratory. You may also log on and check the status of your results any time you like.
If your test does return a positive, do not worry, we will arrange a second, confirmatory test for you. If that too returns a positive, we can help you with referrals including talks with an HIV specialist consultant and the Terrance Higgins Trust.
We are here to support you so stay safe and get tested, after all, it is always Better2Know.
