Comprehensive Diabetes Test

What is a Comprehensive Diabetes Test?

This test measures your blood sugar levels to identify whether you may be at risk of diabetes or have damaged kidneys. As this is an advanced test, it also includes a microalbumin test, which can detect very small levels of albumin (a blood protein) in your urine. Albumin is one of the first proteins to leak when kidneys become damaged.

Why consider the Comprehensive Diabetes test?

The Better2Know Comprehensive Diabetes Test is suitable if you are concerned about your kidney health and risk of diabetes. The additional test for microalbumin can indicate signs of kidney damage in those who are at risk of developing kidney disease, for example, people with diabetes or high blood pressure.

How does this test work?

This test requires a urine sample and blood sample. The blood sample will need to be collected by your nurse. Once your samples have been collected, place them in the postage-paid envelope to send them to our laboratory for fast and accurate analysis.

What tests will be run on my sample?

This test will measure the following:

  • Blood glucose. This test measures your blood sugar levels.
  • HbA1c. To assess how controlled your blood glucose levels have been over the last 3 months.
  • Microalbumin test. To detect levels of albumin which can indicate kidney damage.

When will my test kit arrive?

If you order your Comprehensive Diabetes Test before 4 pm, between Monday and Friday, we will send your test kit to you by first class post on the very same day. If you would prefer a tracked service, please choose special delivery at checkout.

How will I receive my test results?

You will receive your confidential results within two working days of your sample’s arrival at our accredited laboratory. Your results will be available to view in your secure patient area on our website. You can log in and track the progress of your results at any time. Once all of your results are ready, a member of our Patient Services team will contact you to let you know.

What should I do with my results?

If your test reveals you have raised blood glucose levels and are at the stage described as pre-diabetic, you should see a doctor urgently. Medication can be prescribed, and further testing may be recommended to ensure the success of treatment. It is possible to lower blood sugar levels through lifestyle changes.

Q: When will you send my kit to me?

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
