Arthritis Test

What is an Arthritis Test?

This test will provide a diagnosis for Rheumatoid Arthritis, also called Arthritis, which is a long-term condition that can cause pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints.

Why consider an Arthritis Test?

Arthritis is caused when your immune system mistakes your own cells or tissues as being "foreign" and starts attacking them. One of the results of this is Rheumatoid Arthritis. If you are experiencing joint pain, stiffness, swelling, or other discomforts in your hands, feet, or other joints then this test is right for you.

How does this test work?

Your kit contains everything needed for a nurse to collect your blood sample. You will need a healthcare professional to collect your sample for you. Once your blood sample has been taken, simply put it in the postage-paid return envelope to send to our fully accredited UK laboratory for fast and accurate analysis. Your results will be ready within just two working days after we receive your sample.

What tests will you run on my sample?

The Rheumatoid Arthritis test uses a blood sample to test for the following:

  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The ESR measures the rate at which blood cells settle in a tube. Faster rates can indicate inflammatory problems.
  • Rheumatoid factor (RF). This is an autoantibody found in the blood of those who have Rheumatoid Arthritis.
  • Full blood count (FBC). This test checks the levels of all your different blood cells identifying any abnormalities.
  • Uric acid. This chemical is checked to see if you are prone to gout which can also lead to joint pain.
  • Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP). This is a type of antibody produced by the immune system that works against your body's normal antibodies. People who test positive for anti-CCP are very likely to develop Rheumatoid Arthritis, but not everybody with Rheumatoid Arthritis has this antibody.
  • C-reactive protein (CRP). This is another marker for inflammation.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.
