Coeliac Disease Tissue Transglutaminase IgA Test

What is a Tissue Transglutaminase IgA antibody test?

Tissue Transglutaminase Antibodies (TTAs) are one of the antibody types produced in people with a genetic predisposition to Coeliac Disease. Coeliac Disease occurs when the body sees the proteins in gluten as foreign substances and triggers a response from the immune system. Part of this response is to produce what is known as autoantibodies that ‘attack’ the foreign substance producing inflammation and damage in the small intestine.

Gluten is found in the grains wheat, barley and rye, common in cereal-based products and an additive in many other foods. It is thought that relatives of someone with Coeliac Disease have an increased risk of developing this condition.

People with Coeliac Disease may suffer any of a number of symptoms including:

  • Bloating
  • Diarrhoea
  • Flatulence or excess wind
  • Unexplained weight loss.

The Better2Know TTA home test is a very sensitive test for diagnosing coeliac disease and is often used in conjunction with the gliadin test for a more accurate diagnosis.

Why should I consider a Gluten Intolerance Test?

If you have been suffering from any of the symptoms above, or if you have a close blood relative with Coeliac Disease, a Better2Know home test on its own or in conjunction with a gliadin test will help to know if you need to see a doctor or nutritionist to discuss the management of your disease.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.
