Is this STD test accurate?

This is a blood, swab and urine test and is a very accurate and comprehensive test. The HIV accuracy is over 99.8% if you wait at least the recommended 28 days since any incident you are concerned about.

How does this STD test work?

The Confidence Screen tests blood, urine and swab samples which you collect at home with the kit provided. After you have ordered your test online, we will post a discreet test pack to your home via first-class post. The postal pack is plain so no one will know what it is. Open the pack, and inside you will find a form, finger-prick lancets for blood tests, swabs, and all the equipment you need to take your samples. The kit also contains wipes and a return envelope. We will also send you a detailed sample collection leaflet, which will give you clear, step-by-step instructions to make it easy for you to collect your samples. It is important that you follow the instructions on the leaflet very carefully. You then post the samples back in the post-paid envelope provided. You will get an email as soon as your results are ready, but you can also log on and check online whenever you like.

When will my Confidence Screen kit arrive?

If you order your test by 4pm on a weekday (Monday to Friday), we will post it out to you by first class post the same day. Tests normally arrive the next working day or the day after, depending on where you live.

How long before I get my Confidence Screen results?

Typically, the results of your Confidence Screen should be available within five working days from when your samples arrive at the laboratory.

What happens if my STD test is positive?

We will call you if your HIV result is positive and arrange for you to have a second test (which is included in the price). If your second test is positive then we can help you decide where you want to be referred to for treatment and any other support you need. This may include talking to an HIV specialist consultant and the Terrence Higgins Trust.

For other tests, we can make you an appointment with one of our skilled doctors who can write you a prescription for the medication you need (there will be a small charge for this), or you can take the results to your own GP.

Is testing for STDs with Better2Know confidential?

Yes. Your results and details are 100% confidential and we will not inform your GP or anyone else without your permission.

How long should I wait after an encounter before getting a Confidence Screen?

You should wait at least 28 days after any incident you are concerned about before having a Confidence Screen. If you test before this time, the STD test results may not be as accurate as they can be.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will you send my kit to me?

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
