Heart Disease and Inflammation (HS CRP)

What is a Heart Disease and Inflammation High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein test?

Researchers have found that atherosclerosis (fatty deposits in the coronary arteries) produces C-Reactive Protein. This High Sensitivity test has been developed to help to measure cardiovascular disease. C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a substance produced by your liver and is also a marker for infection and inflammation. Elevated levels of CRP could signify chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease or lupus.

Why should I consider a Heart Disease and Inflammation test?

Better2Know’s Heart Disease and Inflammation test can detect the level of this C-Reactive protein in your body with high sensitivity. This test is a useful starting point to identify the presence of inflammatory processes taking place in your body. For those with a concern about cardiovascular health, the high sensitivity of this blood test will identify low, but nevertheless significant levels of C-Reactive Protein in your body.

Research suggests that people who have CRP results in the highest quarter of test results have 2 to 4 times the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, compared with those in the lowest quarter. If you are concerned about your CRP levels, in relation to heart disease and stroke then Better2Know's highly sensitive C-Reactive Protein test will give you the information you need to make changes to your lifestyle.

What should I do with my results?

The results of your High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein home test will identify the levels of this protein in your system. If the rates of CRP are above average, you should consult a doctor. Better2Know can arrange private doctor’s consultations nationwide, so you can discuss your results in more detail and receive advice regarding treatment. You can also take your results to your own GP.

Your High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein test will not detect the cause of inflammation or infection, so elevated levels of CRP in your blood could be due to a variety of health complications.
