Thyroid Comprehensive Profile

What is a thyroid comprehensive profile?

The thyroid gland is situated in the front of your neck and produces T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine). These hormones control the rate of metabolism within your body. T3 is the active form and T4 is the inactive form, which can be converted to T3 when needed. The production of T3 and T4 is controlled by TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) which is produced by the pituitary gland, found at the base of the brain behind the bridge of the nose. In addition to being found ‘free’ in the bloodstream, thyroid hormones also exist bound to proteins whereby they are inactive until needed.

The Better2Know Your Body Thyroid Comprehensive home test measures ‘free’ T3, in addition to T4 and TSH as in the basic thyroid test, to give a more complete picture of thyroid function.

Why should I consider this thyroid profile?

The complex balance of thyroid hormones can sometimes become unbalanced leading to a speeding up or slowing down of metabolism.

  • A low level of thyroid hormones is called hypothyroidism and can cause symptoms such as weight gain, fatigue and even depression.
  • Hyperthyroidism is the opposite, with too much thyroid hormone being present. In this situation you can experience symptoms such as weight loss, anxiety and tremors.

Our thyroid comprehensive profile brings the accuracy and efficiency of our private clinic service to the comfort of your own home. If you have any concerns about your thyroid gland, or if you have experienced any of the symptoms discussed above, you should consider ordering this home testing profile.

What is the Better2Know Your Body home testing process?

Inside your thyroid comprehensive profile home testing kit, you will find three finger prick lancets and a gold-topped tube for blood collection, as well as skin wipes, a pathology form and a prepaid envelope to return your sample. The test requires a single blood sample and you will be emailed with instructions on how to safely collect your sample. Once you have taken your sample, pop it in the envelope provided and mail it to our fully certified, UK laboratory for fast, accurate analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will you send my kit to me?

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
