Uric Acid Gout and Kidney Stones Test

What is Uric Acid?

Uric acid is a chemical produced by the body to break down substances called purines, which are produced in the body. Purines are also present in foods such as sardines, liver, anchovies and beer. Too much uric acid can lead to the formation of crystals in your joints, leading to painful inflammation called gout, a form of arthritis. These crystals can also settle in the kidneys to form kidney stones.

Why consider our uric acid gout and kidney stones test?

This test can be used as a way of measuring your uric acid levels if you have been diagnosed with gout previously. How does this test work?

The Better2Know uric acid gout and kidney stones test uses a blood sample. Your home test kit includes everything your nurse needs to need to collect your sample for you. It also includes a pre-paid envelope to send your sample to our accredited laboratory.

What tests will you run on my sample?

Your sample will be tested for uric acid. The level of uric acid in your blood will determine if there is a potential issue which you need to speak to your doctor about.

When will my test kit arrive?

If ordered before 4pm Monday-Friday, your test kit will be sent out that same day via first class post. You should receive your kit the following working day.

How will I receive my test results?

Your confidential uric acid test results will be ready within two days of them arriving at our accredited laboratory. A member of our team will contact you when your results are ready. You can also access your results by logging into your secure patient area on the Better2Know website at any time.

What should I do with my results?

If your test results are outside the normal range for uric acid, then you should speak with a doctor to discuss your results and any treatment that may be required. Better2Know has a network of doctors nationwide and can help you arrange a follow-up consultation with a private doctor in your local area.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready.
