Vitamin D Test

What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is extremely important for bone health and immune system function. It regulates the levels of calcium and phosphate in your body, keeping your teeth, bones and muscles healthy. Your body produces Vitamin D in response to sun exposure, and through foods in a healthy balanced diet. Foods high in Vitamin D include oily fish such as salmon and mackerel, egg yolks, and dairy products.

What happens if you have a Vitamin D deficiency?

A lack of Vitamin D can cause pain in the bones and muscles, hair loss, mood swings, rickets in children, and osteoporosis in adults. Vitamin D deficiencies have also been linked to muscle weakness, fatigue, and some mental health issues. A prolonged Vitamin D deficiency can lead to health problems such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, depression, increased sensitivity to pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, or neurological issues. What is the Better2Know home testing process?

Better2Know’s home tests enable fast, accurate, and confidential testing in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Your Vitamin D test requires a small blood sample for analysis. Your home testing kit will contain three finger prick lancets, a gold-topped sample collection tube, wipes sample collection guide and a pathology form. You will also be provided with a postage-paid return envelope, so you can send your blood sample to our accredited laboratory in the UK. Please follow this set of instructions carefully.

When will my home testing kit arrive?

Better2Know’s Vitamin D home test will be sent to you on the same day, in the first class post, if you order before 4 pm on a weekday.

How will I receive my test results?

The results of your Better2Know Vitamin D test should be available the same day of the arrival of your blood sample at our fully certified, UK laboratory. You can view your results online via Better2Know’s secure patient area as soon as they are available.

What should I do with my results?

Your results will determine the levels of Vitamin D in your system. If you are found to be deficient in Vitamin D, you can ask Better2Know to arrange a private doctor’s consultation, so you can discuss your diagnosis and what to do about it. There are lifestyle changes and supplements you can take to help increase the levels of Vitamin D in your system, though too much Vitamin D can be harmful. You can also take your results to your own GP.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will you send my kit to me?

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
