STIs are not the usual topic of conversation on Valentine’s Day. The day is a celebration of love and not sex. However, there have been a number of campaigns over the years to use Valentine’s Day to encourage people to come forward for testing. Here are some of our favourites.

  • Young People in Northamptonshire were offered a free pair of  Special Edition Valentine’s Day pants if they had a chlamydia test
  • A seven-seater bike in Southport was used to collect young people to take them to their chlamydia test on Valentine’s Day to draw in the crowds.  The participants all received a Valentine’s Card
  • Testing for the “love bug” in a roadshow in Oxfordshire shopping areas and nightspots
  • In London, Ontario the world record for STI testing (767 tests in 24 hours) was set on Valentine’s Day to encourage more people to get tested
