The UK is currently immunising all girls against HPV (the virus which can cause cervical cancer and genital warts), and has recently changed the vaccine to Gardasil.

The Joint Committee on Vaccine and Immunisation (JCVI) has announced its intention to fund research into the HPV immunisation programme with a new call to look at:

  • whether 2 doses is sufficient (3 are currently given)
  • whether those who the vaccine is given to should be widened particularly men who have sex with men (MSM)
  • increasing the number of HPVs the vaccine programme can protect against

Gardasil protects against 4 different types of HPV virus, but there are over 100.

Better2Know offers the Gardasil vaccine to both men and women of all ages.
