Dr Shamim Byrne is currently practising as a private gynaecologist in Nottingham. Prior to this she worked in the NHS since 1989, training to be a consultant and working in a senior role for 10 years from 2002-2012. Dr Byrne has been a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists since 2006 and is registered with this college for her continuous professional development (CPD).

Dr Byrne has trained and worked in the field of women’s reproductive and sexual health for over 25 years and is passionate about providing a high-quality service tailored to individual needs. Dr Byrne is also on the GMC specialist register for obstetrics and gynaecology, participates in annual appraisals and audits, and has completed her first 5-year cycle of revalidation.

Dr Byrne’s other roles include serving as an expert member on the Nottingham II research ethics committee, on which she has served for the last 9 years. The ethics committee is composed of medical and non-medical members who are responsible for ensuring clinical trials are conducted properly, protecting the welfare of both participants and researchers. Dr Byrne has also participated in research programmes in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology resulting in publications in major academic journals relating in women’s health.

From her Nottingham based clinic, Dr Byrne actively pursues her special interests which include benign gynaecology such as managing menstrual disorders (heavy periods, less frequent periods), subfertility, family planning, early pregnancy and pelvic scanning, and the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.
